Good to know

Travel insurance questions, answered.

Does provincial health insurance cover me when I travel?

Only partially. Your provincial plan (like OHIP in Ontario) pays a small fraction of out-of-country medical costs and never covers them up front — in many cases less than 10% of the bill. Travel medical insurance covers the gap and pays the hospital directly.

Can I buy travel insurance after I’ve already left?

Emergency medical is designed to be purchased before you depart. Visitors-to-Canada coverage can be bought before or after arrival, though a waiting period may apply if purchased after arrival. Always buy before you travel when you can.

What does travel insurance include?

Depending on the plan: emergency hospital and medical care, trip cancellation and interruption, baggage, flight and travel accident, and optional sports & activities coverage. Visitors to Canada and Super Visa plans focus on emergency medical for guests in Canada.

Do your plans meet Super Visa requirements?

Yes. We offer emergency medical plans with at least $100,000 in coverage for 365 days that satisfy IRCC’s Super Visa requirements for parents and grandparents. You can get proof of coverage for the application.

Is there coverage for pre-existing conditions?

Many plans offer stability-based coverage for pre-existing conditions if they’ve been stable for a defined period before your trip. The exact terms are in the policy wording — read it before you buy.

How does TripCovered make money — and does it cost me more?

No, it costs you nothing extra. TripCovered is a licensed insurance service; when you buy through us, our underwriting partner pays us a fee. You pay the same price as going direct, with the guidance and support built in.
